Proposed new Accessibility System and Legislation - Call for Feedback

Kia ora Access Matters Campaign Supporters

Happy new year! I hope you have enjoyed some sunshine over the holiday period, and are re-energised and ready to ensure we get an Accessibility Act that will deliver on what you have told us you need and want.

Late last week, Ministry of Social Development (MSD) officials asked the Access Alliance to provide feedback on specific details of the Government’s proposed new accessibility system and legislation.

MSD want our feedback to their questions on:

  • The detailed objectives of the system
  • The name and function of the board
  • How the voices of the disabled community can be reflected in the system.

More detail on each of these points can be read in the Accelerating Accessibility in New Zealand – Discussion with Access Alliance document.

MSD agreed to us sending out their document to you, and inviting your input on it. Please reply to [email protected] with your feedback by no later than close of play Thursday 27 January. We apologise for the very short timeframe, but it is outside of our control. The campaign team will collate your feedback and send it on to the officials.

It’s important that as many of you as possible include your voices in this discussion.

If you require any support please contact Taryn Banks [email protected].We can arrange alternative ways for you to contribute, such as audio recording, NZSL video and calls with auto-captioning.

He waka eke noa - We are all in this together!
