Exciting news! Access Matters Aotearoa is thrilled to announce that our short documentary ‘Access Matters Aotearoa – Disability Activism in New Zealand’ has been selected as a contender for Best International Documentary at the Focus on Ability™ Short Film Festival.

‘Access Matters Aotearoa – Disability Activism in New Zealand’ encapsulates our journey as disability activists in Aotearoa New Zealand, tirelessly campaigning for a more inclusive and accessible society. The documentary showcases our passion, determination and unwavering spirit, as we delivered the Access Matters Aotearoa petition to Parliament in Wellington, calling for a strong Accessibility for New Zealanders Bill.

Now celebrating its 15th year, the Focus on Ability™ Short Film Festival showcases inspiring short films and documentaries from around the world, highlighting the abilities and stories of people with disabilities. Last year, 281 finalists from 19 countries wowed audiences with their remarkable contributions.

As part of the 2023 Festival, our documentary will compete alongside other exceptional films, bringing the urgent issue of disability rights in Aotearoa New Zealand to the global stage.
