For the usability testing Metlink used Access Advisors' Research Panel involving people with real access needs to help assess the websites. This approach shows a real commitment to achieving digital accessibility, going above compliance with guidelines, and aiming to achieve real accessibility. In addition, three key staff involved in these projects also studied to increase capability and gain a micro-credential in Digital Accessibility through Victoria University."

7. Auckland Transport

"The improvements Auckland Transport have made to their AT Mobile App are a great example of the benefits of their approach to accessibility. They have changed the design and development process of the AT Mobile App to ensure that support for larger text sizes and screen readers is included in every new initiative. Using app analytics, they learned that the majority of customers who use larger text sizes are using up to 135% of the default, so now they design to this size. They have made the app layout flexible for different text sizes by utilising more flexible components that adjust to fit different text sizes as they increase/decrease, while maintaining readability as much as possible. For screen readers, they now include a ‘screen reader design’ in design deliverables before development which maps the different elements, how they should be voiced, what order they should be voiced etc, to maximise support for VoiceOver (iOS) and TalkBack (Android). In addition, they engage Access Advisors to regularly provide independent expert assessments to ensure they are taking the right approach to accessibility."
