#AccessDeniedDiaries by Karleigh-Jayne

I have an essential tremor. I find it hard to fill out forms by hand, but I have to when I need to get help or when I want to participate in activities.

I often encounter barriers that prevent me being able to partake in things that I love, or to be able to access services.

One example was owing money for a gym membership, even though I wasn't using the gym, due to issues with the form I had filled out.

These sorts of incidents have affected me mentally, because I have felt like I am a freak.

I want the access laws to address the fact that not everyone can fill out forms the usual way, and that services need to use more than one way to get the needed information.

This is a story about the barriers many face. We're sharing it because we want a law that puts accessibility at the heart of an inclusive Aotearoa New Zealand.
