#AccessDeniedDiaries by Andrea

As a person with low vision, the following are frequent barriers for me and other visually-impaired Kiwis ...

  • Poor lighting in buildings, making it too dim.

  • Dark carpets, which are hard to see.

  • Tiny text fonts on forms, menus, notices, and so on.

  • Steps that don’t have a strip of white paint on the leading edge to identify each one.

  • A general lack of hand-rails.

  • Lifts which are dark and small.

Accessibility legislation will help address and remove these access barriers.

This is a story about the barriers many face. We're sharing it because we want a law that puts accessibility at the heart of an inclusive Aotearoa New Zealand.
